
Carbs and fats seem to be the trendy health topics these days but let’s not forget about protein.
You can certainly find sustainable and ethical sources of animal proteins such as wild-caught fish, grass-finished beef or pastured eggs, however, there are a plethora of plant-based proteins including hemp. So if steak and eggs is not your thing, maybe hemp flour is calling your name.
How much protein should you eat?
The amount of protein you should eat is based on a lot of variable including your weight, your height and your activity level. A good aim is to consume approximately 10% of your calories from protein. For women that’s typically 46 grams and for men, about 56 grams of protein.
Hemp flour won’t get you high (hope I didn’t burst anyones bubbles), you’ll need to find a source with a much higher level of THC. Hemp flour does however contain a whopping 11 grams of protein in just three little tablespoons. You can try this protein rich flour in these flourless Blueberry Lavender Brownies.
Blueberry Lavender Brownies
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup cacao powder
- 1/4 cup carob powder (substitute more cacao powder)
- 1/2 cup Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein
- 1/2 cup Organic Gemini Tigernut Flour (substitute almond flour)
- 1/4 cup arrowroot starch
- 1/4 cup coconut flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tarter
- 1 flax egg
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- Half cup lavender tea (substitute hot water)
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°F and like an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl combine the ingredients slowly in the order listed. Spread the batter into your 8×8 pan and bake for 25-28 minutes. Allow the brownies cool before frosting.
Blueberry Lavender Frosting
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup soaked cashews
- 1/4 cup coconut
- 1/2 cup organic blueberries
- 1/2 teaspoon organic lavender extract
- 1/4 cup coconut milk (or more depending on preferred consistency)
Directions
Place ingredients in a high-powered food processor. Slowly add the coconut milk until you achieve your desired consistency.
