I’ve worked with hundreds of men and women, helping them to become “Qualitarians” (where we forget diets and focus on quality). Each of them comes to me and asks the same questions, “what’s your diet?” or “what’s the best diet?” and I tell them plainly, “I eat whatever I want” and I tell them to do the same… with one thing in mind.
What is that one thing? Quality.
Give yourself permission to eat whatever you want, so long as the foods you eat are of a highquality. Your body deserves the best!
let me explain. In order to truly become a Qualitarian, you need to forget what foods are “off limits” because many of those off-limit foods provide your body with great benefits. Instead of avoiding foods, begin eating real foods.
Qualitarians will look at muffins, bacon, sodas (or whatever the food or drink it may be) and not think much of it, except where did it come from and what’s it made of? Knowing these two things will help you determine whether that food is good to eat or not worth your time.
I’m not anti-carbs, anti-meat or anything of the sort. But I am anti-junk. I don’t waste my time on hydrogenated, chemical filled, overly-processed, corn-fed, or genetically modified pseudo-foods. I love myself too much to feed it bad things and so should you.
So to get to the point, I choose to eat the foods I like that are of a high quality because quality is key.
So what does that mean for you?
What if you want to eat meat? Go for it! But look for grass-fed and pasture-raised.
What about carbs? I love carbs! My favorites are gluten-free rolled oats, sweet potatoes and quinoa.
What will my family and friends say if I change my diet? Friends and family aren’t there to judge, they’re there to love you… and you don’t have to make it a proclamation.
Here’s what to do to get started as a qualitarian:
1. Put thought into your food.
It’s easy to feed your face when you’re hungry, but stop. Stop and think about what you’re about to feed your amazing body. Do you know what your food is made of and the source it’s coming from?
2. Learn to read…
…Labels that is. Make sure you can identify the ingredients listed on your labels. Or better yet, buy foods that don’t require labels.
3. Love yourself.
You have one body, so make sure you take the best care of it. Love yourself healthy and remind yourself that you deserve quality especially when it comes food!
Here’s a recipe for Qualitarian approved cupcakes to celebrate you!
- 2 scant cups gluten free oat flour
- 1/3 cup MorningPep Xylitol
- 1 T baking powder
- pinch of pink himalayan sea salt
- 5 Tablespoons raw, creamy almond butter
- 1 cup full-fat coconut milk
- One flax egg
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup soaked cashews
- 4 Tablespoons coconut butter
- 1/2 cup Coconut Milk
- 1/4-1/2 teaspoon peppermint essential oil
- 1/4 teaspoon spirulina
Place ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Add more non-dairy milk if it’s too thick.
Preheat the oven to 350° fahrenheit. In a large mixing bowl, stir together your oat flour, xylitol, baking powder and the pinch of pink Himalayan salt. Set aside.
Stir liquid ingredients beginning with coconut milk, vanilla, and flax egg. Finally, stir in creamy almond butter.
Pour batter into a lightly, coconut oil greased cupcake pan. Fill holes approximately 3/4 full. Bake 14 minutes.
Allow cupcakes to cool before adding Spiru-Mint Frosting… Then scarf!
