Blackberries are on the extreme side, just check out this Extreme Blackberry Mint Smoothie
What do I mean by “Extreme”? Well, blackberries are extremely high in antioxidants and extremely delicious, too.
If greens are considered the healthiest vegetable, then berries are the healthiest fruit you can consume. Blackberries in particular contain a long list of vital nutrients, and many of those nutrients are found in enormous quantities in just a single serving – i.e. fiber, vitamin C, manganese and vitamin K — which is why the health benefits of blackberries are so extreme.
Why Eat Blackberries?
If you’re looking to improve your skin – and let’s face it, we’re not getting any younger – just one cup (or 16 berries) contains 50% of your vitamin C needs. The vitamin C found in blackberries nutrition helps to promote the production of collagen, moisturize dry skin and may even prevent premature aging. [yes please!].
More than Skin Deep
Though looking better is fantastic, blackberries, are also shown to improve brain function thanks to their high levels of polyphenols (which help fight free radical and improve memory), while the high amounts of manganese play a vital role in brain synapses. [Manganese deficiency has been linked to brain conditions like epilepsy, so it’s important to keep your manganese levels in check and keep your synapses firing correctly].
Still Not Satisfied?
Blackberries, in addition to improving brain function and skin health, are also shown to reduce inflammation, protect against cancer and prevent cardiovascular disease.
